Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career in the field of radio and television reporter for Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. 1996, she was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). A few years later, she was general reporter at NBC News in Washington. The year 1981 saw her begin covering the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. Mitchell was appointed the chief White House correspondent in 1992. and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell has appeared on the TV news program Meet the Press as a host and panelist. She was on the panel during the presidential debates in 1988 between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has received numerous awards for journalism excellence, including her Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. Mitchell was also awarded with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Her coverage included a variety of crucial stories such as the Iran-contra affair, the tax and budget reforms in addition to the arms control. Mitchell traveled extensively together with the president Reagan to meet with Mikhail Gorbachev.
